Microsoft MCSE Study And Opportunity
Throughout history, new vocations have accompanied new technologies. As technologies evolve, new professional standards and certifications evolve with them.
The information age is upon us and one of the things it brings with it is the need for continuous computer and technology education and training.
According to International Data Corp. (IDC), a leading technology analyst firm in Framingham, Mass., "by the year 2003 the world will experience a networking professional shortage of 1.45 million (workers)." In addition to the workforce shortage, companies find themselves having to deal with ever-shortening product life cycles. In order to meet these challenges, the Internet technology (IT) industry has turned to professional certification programs.
Industry certifications represent a win-win scenario for both employers and employees facing the challenges of the information age. They provide a mechanism that allows businesses, IT newcomers and experienced computer veterans to achieve their long-term goals. Certification programs are designed to ensure mastery of a specific, industry recognized, skill set. They are developed and implemented to teach workmanship standards that apply universally throughout the industry. They allow people trying to break into the high-technology industry an opportunity to quickly learn focused technical skills and they allow seasoned veterans the opportunity to progressively update expertise within their responsibility domains. Today, more than 200 IT industry certifications are available. Each certification requires mastery of a specific discipline within the computer industry. Computer hardware and/or software vendors often sponsor certifications. In many cases levels of certification exist, each indicating a different level of expertise. Two of the premiere certifications within the computer industry are the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). MCSE's are trained to monitor, operate, evaluate, administer and maintain Microsoft-based networks. They are taught to analyze corporate infrastructure requirements and design and maintain IT architectural solutions. Some Fortune 500 companies won't even consider hiring a network professional who does not hold a current Microsoft or Cisco certification. Independent industry studies indicate that certification is a tremendous benefit for employers and employees alike. Managers verify that certified workers are more productive and more knowledgeable than non-certified employees. The same study indicates that savings resulting from certification pays for employee training within nine months.
