MCSE Boot Camp Explorations
In education and training, the real measure of success is learning outcomes, not class enjoyment or internal process measures. Training programs must be held accountable for changing behaviour and improving performance. At least, this is what Wave Technologies International sees as the most important factor - learning and performance outcomes.
Reputed as a worldwide leader in certification training for technical professionals, the company has signed an academic collaboration initiative with Drake Training in Malaysia to deliver information technology (IT) certifications to professionals through its MCSA 2003 Boot Camp program.
Through the program, Wave Technologies takes responsibility for producing results and guarantees certification for all participants, said Ian Adams, its business development director for Asia-Pacific. According to him, Wave Technologies has developed a seamless, integrated, flexible training solution through its boot camp program that combines the best of self-study, classroom and Web-based training and support.
The classroom study, he explained, is important as the human element is vital in learning. "With the combination of all medium of studies, Wave provides interesting, efficient and effective learning." Wave is a whole integrated program, which starts from initial assessment, self-study kit, mentoring services, readiness assessment, boot camp labs and certification. The initial assessment is where the participants are assessed to determine if the boot camp is a good fit for their background, skills and expectations. At the self-study kit part, multiple media for faster skills transfer and to reduce amount of time spent in the classroom are introduced to students. Four weeks before the boot camp labs are conducted, Wave Technologies provides mentoring and guidance services to assist participants in completing the prerequisite study for the labs. These sessions are extended to after the boot labs as well. Contact is made on a regular basis: over the phone, through the Internet, and in person if possible. On the readiness assessment, each participant takes the readiness assessment online. This assessment is to reinforce the importance of the prerequisite assignments and for the trainers to really understand the knowledge and skills level of each class and adjust their instruction accordingly. The MCSE 2003 Boot Camp labs emphasise exam preparations and exercises. Participants will receive hands-on training experience to practice skills that are often tested in the exams. "The end result of the MCSE 2003 Boot Camp is certification. Wave guarantees this outcome if participants follow the recommended study plan," Adams said in a recent interview with Computimes. The certification programs available at the boot camp include the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD), Microsoft Certified Product Specialist (MCPS), Certified Novell Engineer (CNE), A+ Certification, and Sun Certified Java Programr for JDK 1.1. Targeted for software and hardware engineers, the programs cover a wide range of products and extensive new technologies such as Microsoft Windows 2000 solution, Lotus Notes, Novell, Linux, Java and Visual Basic. According to Adams, the MCSE 2003 Boot Camp has already been running successfully for four years in the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States.
